This is a great article about a blogger in Egypt whose dissident voice is being silenced by the government. Good demonstration that access and a good user interface are just two silos that need to be glued by institutions (government, private sector, civil society, etc)

While Kareem Amer's story is tragic and his imprisonment unjust, I think that the fact that bloggers around the world (us included!) are spreading the word and not letting him be forgotten says a lot about the democratizing effects of CMC. Egypt may have the power to silence him, but they don't have power over everyone. I find it tremendously empowering that these stories reach such a wide audience. That way we can, from our privileged position, keep focus on the situation and pressure our own lawmakers to denounce anti-speech practices.
Of course, the collective dissent of a handful of bloggers across the world doesn't solve the problem. Still, it's better than theses stories remaining isolated in communities whose members remain powerless.
